A volunteer deckhand secures the boat.

Become a volunteer at Ft Matanzas and help share its many stories with park visitors. There are numerous ways to participate in the programs, events, and daily life of the park through the National Park Service VIP (Volunteers In Parks) Program. Volunteer Opportunities--

  • Visitor Center Staff -- greet visitors, answer the telephone, make sales.
  • Deck Hand for the ferry -- assist visitors getting onto and off of the boat. Secure the boat to the dock.
  • Living History Interpreter -- present interpretive programs to fort visitors; serve on the crew for cannon or musket firing demonstrations. For information on becoming black powder certified contact Chris Leverett at 904-471-0116 or email.
  • Natural History Interpreter -- present nature programs to park visitor.

Training and uniforms are provided.
