  • Watch our 8 minute orientation audio-visual presentation which that presents a history of Poe’s life and legacy.
  • Visit Poe's historic home.  Scaredy cats can take the Ranger-guided tour. Explorers can play detective on a self-guided tour.
  • Read and learn more about our special programs and events in the "Friends of Poe" newsletter.

    If you have more time:
  • Listen to the works of Edgar Allan Poe narrated by Vincent Price, Basil Rathbone, Christopher Walken and many others.
  • Sit back and relax in our reading room listening to Poe’s works put to music on CD.
  • Take a picture by the “Raven” statue
  • View the Edgar Allan Poe mural located at 7th & Green Streets (across the street from the site).
  • Read the latest park newspaper,"The Gazette" for additional programs, activities and special events that occur throughout the year.

Did You Know?
On July 6, 1781, near Jamestown, the Marquise de Lafayette’s small American force fought General Cornwallis’s army at the Battle of Green Spring. Lafayette lost this, Virginia’s largest infantry battle of the war, but saved his army, enabling him to spy on the British army as it moved to Yorktown.
