Devils Postpile National Monument
Volunteer

There are many opportunities to volunteer for Devils Postpile National Monument. The monument partners with volunteers of all ages for a variety of projects. Below are just a few of the opportunities available in the monument. If you don't see anything that sparks your interest, but would still like to volunteer your time, please contact us via email or phone (760-934-2289) or fill out this application so we can work to match your skills with a project.

Internships through the Student Conservation Association

Devils Postpile partners with the Student Conservation Association to provide college students and those recently graduated from college diverse opportunities to volunteer in the monument. Interns earn a stipend and are involved in projects ranging from visitor services and education to public safety and risk management. For more information, contact the monument directly or visit the SCA website. Most internships are available in the summer season, but other opportunities may be available.

Bird Banding Educational Outreach

Volunteer participation in the 2009 Bird Banding project was a huge success. We will be accepting applications and inquiries for the 2010 program throughout the winter and spring. For more information, contact the Devils Postpile Ranger Station at 760-934-2289 or send us an email. Mileage and expenses will be paid to all volunteers.

Girl Scout Ranger Program

Service projects or other opportunities may be available for Girl Scout Troops looking to work in the national monument. The Girl Scout Ranger program is designed to promote learning and stewardship in our national parks. Click here to learn more online. To participate, please contact the monument or email us.

Centennial Exhibits and Programs Volunteers

Devils Postpile is seeking dedicated volunteers with a basic knowledge of graphic design, Adobe Creative Suite Programs, or exhibit design or a desire to learn to help with the planning and cursory design of traveling exhibits to celebrate the monument's centennial in 2011. If interested or for more information, please contact us at 760-934-2289 (June-October) or 760-924-5505 (October-May).

In the winter, the monument provides a gateway to High Sierra back country skiing.

Did You Know?
Winters in Devils Postpile can be rough! The monument receives over 400 inches of snow each year thanks to our unique location in the Sierra Nevada. This provides great recreational opportunities for experienced backcountry skiers.
