Devils Postpile National Monument is home to one of the most impressive and well preserved examples of columnar basalt in the United States. But the postpile itself is not where the geologic story of the monument begins or ends. The story includes violent uplifts, rivers of lava and ice, and the slow workings of wind and water over time.
