In 2008, Denali welcomed visitors to the opening of a new Eielson Visitor Center, located about 66 miles from the main entrance. Created to replace an aging facility that could no longer accommodate a growing number of visitors, the new facility serves as an example of the park’s commitment to sustainable practices.

A featured exhibit is Seasons of Denali, a quilt by renowned fabric artist Ree Nancarrow.

Closing date: September 21 (in 2009)

The Alaska Geographic Association Bookstore and the concession-operated Morino Grill are located in the visitor center campus.

Interpretive programs, general information and book sales are also available at the ranger station.

In the winter, Denali National Park & Preserve does not shut down! The Murie Science and Learning Center serves as the winter visitor center, and is the source of all up-to-date park information.

For most of the winter, the Park Road is maintained up to mile 3, Park Headquaters. In the early fall and late spring, the Park Road is often open for private vehicles, either to mile 15 or mile 30 (depending on the weather). Call 683-2294 for information on the road's status.
