DILLON PINNACLES PARKING AREA CLOSURE
Dillon Pinnacles parking, picnic areas and boat ramp will be closing periodically over the coming weeks to allow for reconstruction of the area. The construction is expected to begin on October 19, 2009 and continue for approximately four weeks. During construction, there will be times when the parking lot or boat ramp may be closed to ensure visitor safety in the construction zone. The Dillon Pinnacles Trail will remain open during construction, although parking at the trailhead may be periodically unavailable.

BOAT LAUNCHING AT SATELLITE RAMPS
Only hand-launched watercraft with no motor or only an electric trolling motor are permitted to launch at satellite ramps such as Iola, Dillon Pinnacles, Ponderosa, Wilson's Landing and the Wind Surfing Area. The following are prohibited at satellite ramps:
  • launching any watercraft with a trailer (trailer may not enter water)
  • launching motorized watercraft equipped with an engine other than an electric trolling motor
  • launching sailboats

This effort will allow for better monitoring of launch areas for non-Mussel free certified vessels and will increase the likelihood that Blue Mesa will remain mussel free.

Full launching access is available at Elk Creek and Lake Fork Marinas from 7:00am to 7:00pm (NOTE: starting October 25, hours will be 7:00am to 5:00pm.) Stevens Creek boat ramp is closed for the season.

BEACHING BOATS AT STEVENS CREEK
In an effort to accommodate recreational boating use of Iola basin during the 2009 fall season, the Superintendent is permitting overnight beaching of boats at Stevens Creek campground for up to 14 days.

Vessels that have been inspected for mussels at Elk Creek or Lake Fork may be kept for up to 14 days in the cove areas adjacent to Stevens Creek campground. Vessel operators must display the “MUSSEL FREE” inspection certificate provided by the NPS on the dashboard of their vehicle while operating their vessel. Owners must also display the NPS provided tag or sticker on their boat while it is beached.
