Celebrate National Public Lands Day at Crater Lake National Park!
Saturday, September 26, 2009 is the sixteenth annual National Public Lands Day. This is an annual event that provides opportunities for the public to participate in volunteer projects that accomplish much needed work on public lands. National Public Lands Day is organized by the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation supported by nine federal land management agencies, and sponsored by other businesses.
During National Public Lands Day 2008, nearly 100,000 volunteers pitched in to build trails and bridges, restore wetlands, and remove invasive plants, as well as numerous other projects. Volunteers worked at 550 sites in all 50 states. It is estimated that volunteers and their community partners contributed $10 million in improvements to their federal, state and local public lands.
