Visit Clara Barton National Historic Site, dress up in period clothing, pose for your "historic" photograph and craft a holiday card to send to family or friends. Workshops require advanced reservations and are offered:

This is a fun cut and paste activity geared towards families with school-aged children, but open to all and free. Learn how Clara Barton celebrated the holiday season while here. A special exhibit will display a few of Clara Barton's original greetings.

Visit Clara Barton National Historic Site

Clara Barton National Historic Site commemorates the life of Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross. The home served as the headquarters and warehouse for the organization. The house is shown by guided tour only. Tours start on the hour between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. There is no admission charge. The site is open daily but closed on Thanksgiving Day, December 25 and January 1.

Climate

Glen Echo, Maryland is a suburb of Washington, D.C. Summers are usually humid and hot. Winters are usually above freezing but cold. Snowfalls do occur, but are usually not deep. Spring and fall brings beautiful sunny days as well as wind and rain. Clara Barton National Historic Site is not air-conditioned nor well heated. The house has a front porch, but there is no other weather shelter while waiting for tours.
