Firearms Policies
As of February 22, 2010, a new federal law allows people who can legally possess firearms under applicable federal, state, and local laws to legally possess firearms in this park. While this law allows a person to legally carry a firearm on the grounds of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, the law prohibits the possession of a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility unless specifically authorized. 18 USC 930 (a) possession violations are subject to fine and/or imprisonment up to one year, while 18 USC 930 (b) possession violations with an intent to commit a crime are punishable by a fine and imprisonment up to five years. Federal facilities at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park include; Park Headquarters, Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center, and the Maintenance Facility.
In both states, Georgia and Tennessee, the permit holder must have the permit together with valid identification whenever carrying a concealed handgun, and must disclose to any law enforcement officer that they have a valid permit and are in possession of a concealed handgun when contacted. The permit and proper identification must be presented to a law enforcement officer upon request.
It is the responsibility of visitors to understand and comply with all applicable state, local, and federal firearms laws before entering this park. Please note that Chickamauga Battlefield, the Iowa Reservation on Missionary Ridge, and the southern end of Lookout Mountain Battlefield are located in Georgia. Point Park, the northern end Lookout Mountain Battlefield, Orchard Knob, Signal Point, and most of the Missionary Ridge Reservations are located in Tennessee. It is your responsibility to know where you are and which state's laws apply.
