Permits
 

Special Use Permit (SUP)

A Special Use Permit is required for sporting events, pageants, regattas, public spectator attractions, entertainment, ceremonies, public assemblies, meetings, gatherings, demonstrations, parades, and sale or distribution of printed matter that occur on the land or water of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

Pavillion/Field Rental
There are several areas in the park that may be reserved for an event, depending on your needs and the size of your group. Below you will find a summary of the rental locations available in the park. At all park areas there is no electricity available. Although the park is free of charge, there is a vehicle parking fee of $3.00 per vehicle, per day or $25.00 for an annual pass.

Abbotts Bridge

Abbotts Bridge is located along the river by the City of Duluth on GA 120 highway in Gwinnett County. Abbotts is a favorite area to launch fishing boats, picnic, dog walk and bird watch. The gravel parking lot can accommodate approximately 30 automobiles. Overflow parking is available on both side of the gravel entrance road. A pavilion is available with six eight-person picnic tables and two standing charcoal grills. A small field area is located near the pavilion and a boat launch ramp is nearby. Restroom facilities are near the pavilion with cold running water. The facility can accommodate up to 150 people.

 

Island Ford

Island Ford is located off of Robert’s Drive near the Northridge Road, Exit 6 off Georgia 400 in Fulton County. The paved parking lot near the Visitor Center can accommodate approximately 55 automobiles. Sam Hewlett field is accessed by walking down a moderately steep paved walkway and stairs behind the Visitor Center. The picnic area includes eight eight-person picnic tables and three standing charcoal grills in the shade of the trees. The area includes a large field, a small fishing deck over the river, and a boat step down ramp. Restroom facilities with hot and cold running water are available in the park’s Visitor Center during regular operating hours (9 AM – 5 PM). The facility can accommodate up to 250 people.

 

Johnson Ferry North

Johnson Ferry North is located east of Johnson Ferry Road at the intersection of Columns Drive in Cobb County. The paved parking lot can accommodate approximately 150 automobiles. A pavilion is available with eight eight-person picnic tables and two standing charcoal grills. A small field area is located near the pavilion and a boat launch ramp is nearby. Restroom facilities are adjacent to the pavilion with cold running water. The facility can accommodate up to 200 people.

 

Johnson Ferry South

Johnson Ferry South is located west of Johnson Ferry Road on Columns Drive in Cobb County. The gravel parking lot can accommodate approximately 40 automobiles. A pavilion is available with six eight-person picnic tables and two standing charcoal grills. A small field area is located near the pavilion. Restroom facilities are provided by a portalet unit only. Running water is not available at this location. The facility can accommodate up to 150 people.

 

Powers Island

Powers Island is located on Interstate North Parkway in Sandy Springs, Fulton County. The paved parking lot can accommodate approximately 75 automobiles. A pavilion is available with eight eight-person picnic tables and two standing charcoal grills. A small field area is located near the pavilion and a boat step down ramp is nearby down a short trail. Restroom facilities are adjacent to the pavilion with cold running water. The facility can accommodate up to 200 people.

 

Paces Mill

Paces Mill is located off of Cobb Parkway near Cumberland Parkway and Paces Mill Road. The paved parking lot can accommodate approximately 200 automobiles. A large field area is located along the river and a boat launch ramp is nearby. Restroom facilities are near the field with cold running water. The nearby picnic area is not available for reservation. The facility can accommodate up to 750 people.

Filming/Photography

If you are planning to do commercial filming or photography in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area you must have a Special Use Permit.

Commercial Use Application (CUA)

A Commercial Use Authorization is a permit necessary to conduct business in the park in any way.

CUAs can include: fishing instruction, exercise classes, boat rentals, river tours, shuttle services, etc. Permits will only be considered for activities that relate to the park's reason for establishment.

Did You Know?
Jones Bridge spanned the Chattahoochee River from 1904-1922 falling into disrepair in the 1930's. Half of the bridge was "stolen" in 1940, neighbors didn't know the workers cutting the bridge were not authorized to do so until it was too late.
