Is there an entrance fee to visit the Memorial?
There is no fee to visit the park. However, groups of 50 or more must obtain a special use permit at least two weeks in advance of their arrival date. Cost: $25.00 application fee.

Are there Volunteer Opportunities at the Memorial?
The volunteer program at Chamizal National Memorial offers a wide variety of opportunities for interested individuals. Our volunteers help organize and accomplish special events like Music Under the Stars, the Chamizal Festival, and the Silo de Or Drama Festival. They also lend a hand to our staff in clerical duties, interpretation and education outreach activities, and maintenance work. Come join our team of volunteers and see what Chamizal National Memorial has to offer you and our community.

Are there picnic facilities available at the park?
The Memorial has a limited number of tables and grills located in different areas of the park that are available on a first-come/first-serve basis.

Is camping allowed at the Memorial?
No, overnight camping is not allowed. The park closes each night at 10:00 PM.

Can we leave our cars park at the Memorial while visiting Mexico?
The Memorial's parking lot is strictly for park visitors. We recommend you park your vehicle at one of the commercial lots located in downtown El Paso (approx. 1 mile west of the park).

Is the Rio Grande river accessible from the park?
No, there are two major highways between the park and the river. Trails along the river are accessible further up and down the river in more rural areas.

Over 5,000 U.S. residents had to be moved from their homes and businesses in the area of El Paso that was to be handed over to Mexico, in agreement with the terms of the Chamizal Convention of 1963, at the government’s expense.
