Catoctin Mountain Park Announces Temporary Partial Park Closures

Due to increased security measures, portions of Catoctin Mountain Park will be closed effective Saturday, November 7, 2009 at approximately 11:00AM, through Sunday, November 8, 2009 at approximately 1:30PM.

Park Central Road is closed between the Camp Misty Mount entrance and Camp Greentop. Reservations for Poplar Grove, Camp Misty Mount, Camp Greentop and Camp Round Meadow will be honored.

Hikers may access trails to Thurmont Vista, Wolf Rock, and Chimney Rock as well as the Falls Nature Trail from the Visitor Center Trailheads. The Catoctin Trail will remain open. The routes to Blue Ridge Summit Overlook and Hog Rock are not available during this closure. Manahan Road and trails to the west of Manahan Road are available for use.

Picnickers may use Chestnut Picnic Area. Owen's Creek Picnic Area is closed for the season.

Did You Know?
Visitors in Catoctin Mountain Park may gather morel mushrooms for personal consumption. Morels are found in a variety of habitats but generally they seem to be found in wet soil that is high in organic matter and shaded by trees, especially hardwoods. Favorite locations are closely guarded secrets!
