Join us for virtual workshops!

The park hosts a series of virtual writing workshops each month. Poetry, prose, non-fiction and other genres are offered. Join us for a workshop or help lead one!

Writers interested in leading a virtual workshop should contact the Education Coordinator by email. Please submit a resume and program outline. A $250 stipend is offered for these 2-hour monthly programs.

The Carl Sandburg Writer-in-Residence Program ran from 2010 to 2020. Below you can find links to the writers and more information about the program. The program was suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and then transitioned to monthly virtual writing workshops. The monthly workshops have reached international audiences and allows the park an opportunity to work with more writers and reach more people each year than the residence program.

Why a Writer-in-Residence at Carl Sandburg Home NHS?
It was the desire of Mrs. Lilian Sandburg, when her family's North Carolina home became a unit of the National Park Service in 1968, that Connemara continue to be a place of inspiration for future generations of writers. With the support of the Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara her idea was first implemented in 2010.

The virtual programs help to continue the wishes of Mrs. Sandburg to inspire future generations of writers.
