Time Commitment: Full or part time Location: Buffalo Point Ranger Station, Tyler Bend Visitor Center, Steel Creek Ranger Station Type: Individual Description: Provides information to visitors, assists with trip itinerary planning, and educates on the principles of the “Leave No Trace” ethic and the “Preventative Search and Rescue” concepts at infromation desk in visitor center or ranger station. Season: Spring, Summer, Fall
Time Commitment: Full time Location: Steel Creek, Kyle's Landing, Ozark, Tyler Bend, Buffalo Point Type: Individual Description: Assist visitors in locating campsite, answer questions about the campground, regulations governing the area, the park itself, and the VIP program. Ensure compliance with park regulations concerning visitor use fees, applicable documentation and site occupation. Season: Year round
Time Commitment: Long Term Location: Steel Creek Type: Individual Description: Assistants will have been educated on basic horse safety. They are approved only to feed, water, groom, muck, and tack with the approval of the Horse Program Manager. They may work on Beginner skills under the direct supervision of the Horse Program Manager. Current Episodic Volunteer Opportunities Season: Year Round
Time Commitment: 3 - 4 times per year Location: Any trail in Buffalo National River Type: Individual or group Description: Volunteers will hike their selected trail 3 to 4 times per year to pick up trash, remove small branches from the trail, scatter fire pit traces, and monitor trail conditions. A brief written report will be sent to the VIP Coordinator within 5 days of each site visit. Season: Year round
Time Commitment: 2 - 3 days per year Location: Type: Individual or group Description: Volunteers agree to visit their adopted site 2 to 3 times per year to pick up trash, remove small branches and brush, and monitor conditions. Time Commitment: On call, with quarterly skill trainings and refreshers. Location: Various locations of Buffalo National River Type: Individual or group Description: Volunteers will respond to emergency incidents in the Buffalo National River. BUFFSAR volunteers should attend quarterly skills trainings and refreshers offered by the National Park Service and its partners at Buffalo National River. These trainings may include high- and low-angle technical rescue, swiftwater rescue, cave rescue, first aid/CPR, Wilderness First Responder, and more. BUFFSAR members must be committed to excellence and a team-oriented mindset, with safety as the top priority. |
