Empty Saddle Ceremony

Each year near many Nez Perce tribal members travel to the Montana battlefields to honor all those who fought and died during the conflict of 1877. Commemoration programs usually begin at 10:00 am and last until 2:00 pm. Events include a rider-less horse ceremony, pipe ceremony, and traditional drum circle. These events are free and open to the public. Photography is not allowed during the pipe ceremony. Weather conditions vary and layered clothing is encouraged. Lawn chairs or blankets for seating are also recommended.

Commemoration Schedule for 2008:
