Notes: His duplicate baptismal record in Suamca says he was baptized on 30 June 1754.The following is from the Tubac Presidio Service Records as copied for the Tucson Presidio Records: He baptized Francisca Sanchez in the absence of Padre Gutierrez at her request.
Juan Bautista Romero, native of the Buenavista Ranch, son of Nicolás (Romero) and María Jigenia Grijalva, sic., in the governmental jurisdiction of Sonora and living at the ancient presidio of Tubac. His height is five feet. He is twenty-two years of age. His religion is Apostolic Roman Catholic. Distinguishing characteristics are: large black eyes, hair of the same color, narrow nose, thick lips, sparce beard. He began service at this presidio for a period of ten years on January 25, 1777. They read him the penal laws concerning soldiers who attend the commanding officer and since he does not know how to sign his name, he made the sign of the cross, after being advised that by so doing this document becomes legal and he is left without excuse. Several people were witnesses including the sergeant of the said company
