In 1992, while engaged in submerged cultural resources management activities in the Western Pacific, a team from the SRC conducted field operations in Majuro. In addition to examining the submerged sites around the island, the primary task was teaching an underwater archeology course to historic preservation representatives from the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Sites throughout the island were used to instruct the students in mapping procedures and photo and video documentation.
Sites documented included the remains of a B-24 Liberator, close to the southern tip of Majuro at a depth of 10-15 feet and a WWII dump site at Ejit. The site contained many vehicles including jeeps, trucks, and landing craft (one LCM, and two LCUs) that were abandoned and sunk at the end of the war.
