In fall 2000 the Timucucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve Cultural Resources Program Manager asked the SRC to conduct underwater archeological compliance surveys for two dock construction projects. Field operations were undertaken by Matt Russell in association with archeological contractor Ralph Wilbanks. Survey methodology included DGPS positioned survey with a marine magnetometer and side scan sonar with differential corrections provided by USCG broadcast stations. |

There were no archeological findings in the Kingsley Plantation Survey area both magnetometer and side scan sonar showed no evidence of submerged cultural materials. In the Fort Caroline survey area a single, large, multi-component magnetic anomaly was present near the proposed dock location. No indications of cultural materials were observed by sonar or dive operations above the seabed in this area. It was recommended that further archeological testing be completed if precise GPS locations indicated the proposed construction zone coincided with areas in which magnetic anomalies were found.
