Golden Gate National Recreation Area

The area encompassed by GGNRA and associated parks and sanctuaries in the San Francisco Bay area is very rich in maritime resources. More than 100 barks, schooners, steamers and other ships lie in waters immediately offshore of this park, including the medium clipper ship King Philip, sunk in 1856 and the Gold Rush sidewheel steamer Tennessee sunk in 1853. SRC has fielded several operations at GGNRA but most have been coordinated through Park staff including James Delgado and Martin Mayer. In addition, these and other individuals have conducted various studies, often in association with the National Maritime Museum in San Francisco--also under the aegis of the National Park Service. In 1989 a report was generated summarizing most of this activity
