Description:
Commemorates the whaling industry and its impact on the economic, social, and environmental history of the United States. The park includes a 13-block National Historic Landmark District.

Driving Directions: car
New Bedford is located approximately 60 miles south of Boston and 30 miles west of Providence, RI.

From the North:
1. Take I-93/MA-3/US-1 southbound.
2. South of Boston in Braintree, the highway forks: Stay to the right, towards "I-93 South, Dedham-Providence."
3. From I-93/US-1, take Exit #4 onto MA-24 South. This is a left lane exit.
4. From MA-24, take Exit #12 onto MA-140 South.
5. From MA-140, take Exit #2E onto I-195 East.
6. From I-195, take Exit #15 (“Downtown - Route 18 South”) onto MA-18 South.
7. Turn right at the traffic light onto Elm Street. A public parking garage is two blocks ahead on the right.

From Cape Cod:
1. Take US-6 westbound.
2. Cross the Sagamore Bridge, and turn left to continue on US-6.
3. Take MA-25 West.
4. Take I-195 West.
5. From I-195, take Exit #15 (“Downtown - Route 18 South”) onto MA-18 South.
6. Turn right at the traffic light onto Elm Street. A public parking garage is two blocks ahead on the right.

From Providence, RI and Points West:
1. Take I-195 eastbound.
2. From I-195, take Exit #15 (“Downtown - Route 18 South”) onto MA-18 South.
3. Turn right at the traffic light onto Elm Street. A public parking garage is two blocks ahead on the right.

A municipal parking garage and lot are located within the park.

Ranger Tips: park ranger hat 
The park’s orientation movie, "The City That Lit the World," shows daily, free of charge, in the theater of the New Bedford Whaling Museum. Walking tours led by park volunteers are offered seasonally.
