Applications Software

Installation, configuration, and/or use of software programs including off-the-shelf and/or NPS & DOI custom software.


Applications Testing

Developing or following test plans and conducting testing of software.


Archival Management & Preservation

The preservation and protection of library materials.


Cataloging & Classification

The description and listing of library items in order to identify, control, house, retrieve, and use materials.


Collection Development & Management

The selection and acquisition of appropriate library materials.


Communications

Presenting information to inform, motivate and involve others in recreation and conservation matters; interacting with peers, managers, grants partners and other cooperators; writing letters and reports; preparing publications and graphics.


Computer Hardware and Operating System Duties

The ability to perform basic operation of 16 and 32-bit operating systems, windowing technology, and Internet and other networks.


Computer-Related Library & Information Technology

Use of current technology to maintain a library and to assist users in finding material and information.


Cultural Resource GIS Application & Modeling

The ability to develop cultural resource GIS applications in areas such as Cultural Resource plans, historic scene restoration, archeological site and battlefield preservation, and fire suppression.


Data and Information Management Duties

The maintenance of data in a prescribed organization; the documentation of data using prescribed standards; the following of prescribed procedures for backups and archiving data; and the inventory of data holdings.


Data-Communications/Wide Area Networking

Providing and configuring with the hardware and software needed for computer users to connect to computers outside their office.


Electronic Mail

Providing computer users with electronic mail services including local services and coordination across NPS offices.


Emerging Technologies

Research, evaluating, advising on, and implementing new and emerging technologies


Geographic Spatial Modeling

The ability to operate routine, predefined models and display results using AML and other Macro languages.


GIS Program Management

The ability to supervise and manage a GIS operation.

Indexing & Abstracting

Assistance of users in finding information and materials.


Information Management System Development

Development of information management systems such as resource or bibliographic databases.


Information Management System Maintenance

Maintenance of information management systems through selection, acquisition, and processing of appropriate materials.

Strategic planning within a nationwide library program.


Library Management

The maintenance of a NPS library using library principles, standard methods, and techniques.


Library Operations

The effective and efficient maintenance of a library.


Local Area Network Administration

Administering ore or more local are networks connecting computers within one building or a group of buildings within one park or office complex.


Local Area Network Design

Planning, designing, and installing new local area networks or upgrades to existing networks.


Natural Resource GIS Application & Modeling

The ability to develop planning GIS applications in areas such as General Management Plans, General Development Plans, site selection, landscape architecture, landscape restoration, and view shed analysis.


Network/Telecommunications Media

Researching, evaluating, advising on, installing, maintaining, or overseeing contracts on network and telecommunications media, including cable, radio, microwave, and light wave.


Operating Systems

Installation, use and/or troubleshooting of computers and related hardware.


Procurement/Contracting

Serving as technical representative and advisor on procurement of information management equipment, supplies, and services; including assistance to end-users, managers, and contracting staff.


Program Design/Programming

Using functional requirements and program specifications to design computer programs that address all stated and implied requirements; writing effective computer programs in a language appropriate to the need.


Reference Resources & Skills

The assistance of library users in finding information and materials.


Spatial and Relational Data Base Development Duties

The ability to perform data collection, to input data into GIS or other databases, and to build and edit data bases.


Systems Analysis

Analysis of current procedures and the needs of all affected parties to determine the best ways of applying information management systems or manual procedures.


Technical writing

Conveying technical information to the appropriate audience level.


Telecommunications Services

Advising on, arranging for, and/or using various commercial services available for voice, data, video or other electronic communications.


Telephone Systems

Planning, researching new technology, monitoring administrative processes, training and implementing/installing telephone systems


Training Techniques

Conducting, coordinating, and/or developing training sessions and courses.


Troubleshooting & Maintenance

Determining the source of problems, solving problems, and preventing future problems.


Use and Management of GIS Software and Related Technologies

The ability to use routine modules of ARC/INFO or other workstation/PC-based GIS software; to operate and maintain various GIS input and output devices and related software; and to perform data manipulation and reporting.


Voice Mail Systems

Planning, researching, implementing/installing, and training on voice mail systems.
