Arrow Lake to Camas Lake / 3.6 mi.
Initial clearing scheduled for: 8/1/14 per 250.

15 trees down. Trail is extremely rugged with dense, jungle-like vegetation. Trail is difficult to see/ follow at times due to vegetation. Sections of trail near head of Arrow Lake are completely submerged in water. Unstable footing with large, slippery rocks on much of trail. See advisories below: 7/22/14 per 223.

STOCK HAZARDS: The THIRD and FOURTH Camas Creek fords pose a STOCK HAZARD due to a high volume of water running over many large boulders and rocks. Trail tread in certain locations has sluffed, is missing, or is very irregular and can provide for uneven footing. Large boulders have been deposited on the trail, but can be negotiated by going off-trail above or below them. Some dry washes after the FOURTH Camas Creek crossing have abrupt edges and erosion has created uneven footing in rocky conditions. 7/22/2014 per 223.

WATER HAZARDS: There are five fords of Camas Creek, beginning at the Arrow Lake Campground and ending at the Camas Lake Campground. The THIRD and FOURTH stream crossings are the most hazardous, and have large slippery rocks and boulders along the stream bed and swift water flowing through and over them. 07/22/2014 per 223.

ROUTE FINDING: The Camas Creek Trail from the head of Arrow Lake to Camas Lake Campground may be difficult for some to follow. At the HEAD of ARROW LAKE the trail dissappears in the flooded waters of the lake. Follow the lakeshore, crossing multiple small feeder streams and Camas Creek, for about one hundred meters; look to the left (north) and a yellow marker on a tree marks the trail, from whence it heads on the right (east) side of Camas Creek through open meadows. 07/22/2014 per 223.

2014 SNOW HAZARD: Even after blasting, the trail will still involve crossing snow that will deform over time into an uneven surface as it melts. This means the tread on Ahern Drift (approx. 3.5 miles from Granite Park) may become hardened and packed ice with a steep angle tread thus crampons, an ice axe, and the knowledge and skills necessary to use this equipment safely is recommended. There is also the option of going off-trail down and below the drift, then climbing back up to the trail but this can also be hazardous. Additional snow hazards: Cattle Queen Drift (approx. 6.5 miles from Granite Park)is a low angle drift which can be up to 120 ft across. It will melt out from underneath creating a thin snow bridge that is probably not visible to hikers. This drift thus becomes a hazard in June and should be approached with caution from late June-into August. There is an alternate route below the drift that involves crossing Cattle Queen Creek about 130' below the trail. 5/29/2014 Per 250

2014 STOCK WARNING: The Ahern Drift section (3.5 miles north of Granite Park) is NOT recommended for single horses nor for mule strings carrying loads due to a retaining wall collapse near the drift which has narrowed the trail to 3' wide. There are additional sections of trail between Ahern and Fifty Mtn. that were damaged from a June/2013 storm that make the trail very difficult for stock traffic. Repairs will be complicated and have not yet been scheduled. 5/29/2014 per 250. Per 250.
