After nine years with the NPS, facility manager Dennis Steele has announced his retirement, effective November 30th.
Dennis began his NPS career in May 2000 as an electrician at Sleeping Bear Dunes NL. In 2003, Dennis accepted a position as facility management specialist at Haleakala National Park, with responsibilities for all construction projects. Dennis became chief of maintenance at Herbert Hoover NHS in 2005, where he cared for several historic structures, the Presidential Library and gravesite.
Dennis arrived at Petrified Forest in 2006, and soon became a member of the Intermountain Region Maintenance Advisory Committee. Dennis identifies a detail as superintendent of Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in 2007 as the highlight of his career.
Dennis and Diana plan to park their Harley Davidson cruisers in Traverse City, Michigan.
A retirement barbecue has been scheduled for November 30th at Petrified Forest. Anyone wishing to send messages for Dennis and Diana can forward them to Cliff Spencer (cliff_spencer@nps.gov) at Petrified Forest by November 27th.
