Mark Flora, chief of the Planning and Evaluation Branch of the Natural Resource Program Center Water Resources Division, will retire on October 31st after a 30-year career with the National Park Service.

In his current position, Mark helped establish the division’s water resource planning, wetlands management, and fisheries management programs, and began a series of coastal water resources and watershed condition assessment reports for coastal and Great Lakes units of the National Park System.

Prior to assuming his current position in 1993, Mark spent 15 years as a hydrologist focusing on water quality and water  resource management issues in a series of NPS assignments, including the Water Resources Division, Everglades NP, Indiana Dunes NL, and three years as a technician with the Department of Geology and Geophysics, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Mark has worked with scores of parks on a variety of planning, condition assessment, and water resources management issues. Throughout his career he maintained a commitment to serving parks, technical excellence, and the preparation of completion products for all his assignments.

Mark, his wife Sally, and daughter Miranda will remain in Lakewood, Colorado for the time being.  Information on a retirement function will be forthcoming.  If you have photos or stories you wish to share, please send them to kris_parker@nps.gov or mail them to Kris Parker, National Park Service, Water Resources Division, 1201 Oakridge Drive, Suite 250, Fort Collins, CO 80525.
