During the week of October 13th through October 16th, 53 interpretive rangers from throughout Southeast Region attended a training session on interpretive media and the Facility Management Software System (FMSS).

An interpretive media work group has worked closely with Harpers Ferry Design Center and the Facility Management Division to establish servicewide business practices and guidelines for waysides and exhibits. This training introduced interpretive rangers to information on how to capture their park's interpretive media data in FMSS and use it to perform condition assessments, create work orders to repair their media, and produce facility projects in PMIS.

Rangers will now be able to utilize FMSS to create projects for their exhibits and waysides, giving them the ability to compete for cyclic and repair/rehab funds for interpretation. This introduction has also exposed the interpretive staff to the many possibilities for the utilizing the data in the FMSS for future planning and funding justifications.

The course was held at the Southeast Regional Office in Atlanta.Instructors for the course included Vicki Garrett, Horseshoe Bend National Military Park, Beth Roberts-Hamel, Vicksburg National Military Park, Debbie Northrop, Blueridge Parkway, and Laura Rich-Acosta, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park.
