NPF Announces New Grant Opportunity (revised link)

[Printer-friendly text version]

The National Park Foundation and the African American Experience Fund have issued a new grant opportunity called “Building Common Ground.”

NPF is currently developing a new diversity platform that focuses on developing culturally relevant model programs and programmatic strategies that lead to greater diversity in park visitorship, engagement, and the visibility of diverse cultures that the parks represent.  With the new diversity platform, NPF hopes to create a larger impact on how multi-cultural stories are interpreted and presented throughout the national parks.

The focus of this grant program is to find ways to help national parks develop relevant and creative programs that tap into their own untold stories and welcome all Americans, regardless of their race, color or creed, to our shared heritage—America’s National Parks. In addition, this grant should help NPS sites build community relationships around a park/community event during Black History Month or National Park Week.

The scope of this grant includes the development of programs and initiatives that will strengthen the National Park Service’s ability to serve and relate to under-engaged audiences. Importantly, “Building Common Ground” grants programs should advance the goal of creating an awareness and appreciation for the diverse heritage and cultures that play an important role in our national parks.

The application can be found online and must be submitted by December 11th. Click on "More Information" below to be directed to the the application link and RFP.
