Antietam National Battlefield Will Continue to Replant the Historic East Woods This Fall

Antietam National Battlefield will begin planting hardwood seedlings to restore the historic East Woods.  Planting will begin on Saturday October 24th and continue through early December, Tuesday through Saturday. This opportunity is for everyone, including school, scout and other groups or individuals who would like to give back to their park and become part of REPLANTING HISTORY

Alexander Gardner's photographs of Antietam were the first ever images to show dead soldiers on the field of battle. A New York Times article about the photographs said it was if the "dead had been laid at our doorsteps."
